We understand that traveling for a destination wedding is a big ask, and while we would absolutely love to celebrate with you in person, we completely understand if you are unable to join us. Your love and support mean the world to us, whether from near or far—no passports required.

If you are interested in joining, please reach out to us with any and all questions. We've done a bit of research, and we're happy to help. werderitswed@gmail.com

We picked the town of Puerto Morelos because it is quaint and walkable with a variety of restaurant options. Our recommendation is to stay at a boutique hotel or vacation rental in town, but if you prefer an all-inclusive, we have listed several below.

Itinerary

We'll post the full itinerary soon, but for now we recommend arriving by Thursday November 13 and departing Monday November 17.

Flights

Please fly into Cancun International Airport (CUN). It’s about 20 minutes from Puerto Morelos by taxi or shuttle.

Transportation

Arrange Airport Transportation Ahead of Time

Cancun International Airport (CUN) is about 20 minutes from Puerto Morelos.

We recommend pre-booking a shuttle or private transfer before you land for a smooth arrival.

Accommodations

Areia Hotel

Areia is centrally located (7 min walking from wedding venue (1/3 mile), 4 min from beach (1/4 mile)). We checked out rooms which include king, queen and 2 double. The rooms are clean, modern and sufficient size. There is a smaller but beautiful rooftop pool.

Vacation Rentals

Puerto Morelos has many boutique hotels and Airbnbs. Some are good and some are not. Feel free to send anything you're looking at to us because we've toured a lot of them!

The Fives

The Fives is the only all-inclusive option within the town of Puerto Morelos. If you want something between a small boutique hotel and an expansive all-inclusive property, this is a good option. (less than a mile walk to wedding venue)

Travel Notes

Check Your Passport

Please make sure your passport is valid through at least May 2026 (six months after the wedding).

If it’s expired or expiring soon, now’s the time to renew.

Town is Small & Walkable

Puerto Morelos is a walkable fishing village — peaceful, colorful, and safe. You can walk from end to end in about 20–30 minutes.

Most people stay in the beach zone and explore on foot or by bike.

What Puerto Morelos is Known For

- Laid-back charm – no big resorts or wild nightlife
- Great snorkeling – the second-largest reef in the world is just offshore!
- Local culture – artisan markets, fresh seafood, and friendly locals
- Cenotes – beautiful freshwater swimming holes nearby
- Beach sunrises & jungle sunsets – it’s a little slice of heaven

Where We’re Staying

The wedding couple and family will be staying at a boutique hotel near The Fives Oceanfront, on the north side of town.

It’s a quieter area with walkable access to the town square, nearby cafes, and shops.

Bring a Few Pesos

While U.S. dollars are accepted in most tourist areas, it’s smart to grab a few Mexican pesos before your trip for:
  - Tips
  - Taxis
  - Small local shops or food stands

You can also use ATMs in town, but it’s nice to arrive with some cash in hand. Check with your bank - they likely have better rates than you can get in an airport or currency exchange.

Drink Bottled Water

Please stick to bottled water only — even for brushing your teeth — unless your hotel specifically states otherwise.

Most hotels will provide plenty, and it’s sold everywhere locally.

Tipping in Mexico

Tipping is appreciated and expected in service areas. Here’s a quick guide:

 - Restaurants: 10–15%
 - Hotel Staff: 20–50 pesos per day
 - Shuttle Drivers: $2–5 USD per ride
 - Spa Services: 10–20%
 - Bag Handlers: $1–2 USD per bag

Relax & Enjoy

Bring your flip-flops, sunscreen, and a heart ready to soak it all in.

We’re so grateful to celebrate with you — and we hope you leave Puerto Morelos feeling rested, refreshed, and full of good memories.
